COVID-19 POLICIES

While in-person instruction is always preferred, online instruction is also offered. All studio policies apply to online lessons.

In an effort to create a clean and healthy in-person teaching environment, I will wipe down all surfaces in the studio between lessons and every student and parent will be given hand sanitizer when they arrive.

STUDIO POLICIES

At the Studio: Please arrive on-time with all materials. Parents may attend and quietly observe lessons once a month or more, provided that the student is not distracted.

Materials: Students should bring all materials to each lesson. This includes a pencil, a notebook for writing down assignments and other notes, and all music.

Performances: Students are encouraged to participate in an annual recital as well other opportunities such as festivals and competitions. I will help students prepare specifically for these events if they choose to participate.

Payment: Lessons may be paid for in person by check/cash or online via Venmo/PayPal at each lesson or on a monthly basis. The cost of music and materials is not included in lesson fees.

Instruments at Home: Students taking piano lessons will need an instrument at home on which to practice. A well-maintained acoustic piano is fantastic, but a full-sized digital piano (88 weighted keys) is fine as well.

Weekly Assignments and Practicing:

At each lesson, I will give practicing assignments which will be written down in the student’s notebook. Every assignment should be completed during each daily practice session and students are expected to practice every day. The length of each practice session will vary; it’s more important that the student works on every assignment during each practice session than that the student practices for a certain amount of time. It is of course encouraged for students to practice beyond the given assignments, but it is not required.

Parents are encouraged to be supportive and active participants in practice at home. I will happily answer any questions about how to be involved.

Please note that being underprepared or having not practiced enough is NOT a reason to miss a lesson. A lesson consisting of “guided practice” is very valuable and is probably most needed at that time.

Absences and Tardiness:

Lessons missed due to a school or family event, or any other pre-planned event will be made up given at least 24 hours advance notice. In case of illness or emergency, I will make every effort to accommodate scheduling changes as long as an attempt is made to give as advanced notice as possible. Lessons missed because of studio closure for any reason will be made up and prior notice will be given.

While I will always make every effort to accommodate sudden scheduling changes, rescheduling lessons less than 24 hours in advance cannot be guaranteed. However, I will be unable to make up missed or late lessons without prior notice.

New Students and Trial Lessons: A trial lesson is offered to prospective students, which is free if you decide not to continue instruction.

Upon signing up for lessons, the student/parent will be asked to read the studio policies and sign and date the document. By signing, you agree to abide by the studio’s current policies as long as the student is taking lessons. If a new version of the policies is issued, I will provide a copy to the student/parent.
