About Me

Greg Matteson is a collaborative pianist, music director, and arranger/composer.

Recently, Greg was the music director of A Christmas Carol: The Live Radio Play (2020) at the Alliance Theatre, and will continue on as music director for future annual productions of A Christmas Carol at the Alliance. Previously he was the associate music director of Maybe Happy Ending (2020) and music director and conductor/pianist of Ride the Cyclone (2019) at the Alliance Theatre, for which he was nominated for the Suzi Bass “Best Musical Direction” award. Other projects with the Alliance include Max Makes a Million (2019) and Ever After (2019). Greg has also served as music director for the theater department at Clayton State University, as well as for the Georgia State University Opera program.

Greg is currently an Artist Affiliate in Collaborative Piano at Emory University, where he accompanies private voice lessons and the University Chorus, and is a vocal coach for the music department. He also accompanies classes at Atlanta Ballet and is an active chamber recitalist.

Teaching has always been one of Greg’s passions. He has taught all ages and levels of experience across the country and his students have received many awards and honors. As a cornerstone of his teaching philosophy, Greg adapts curricula to the specific needs and desires of each of his students in order to maximize learning and enjoyment.

Greg holds a BA in Piano from Emory University and an MM in Collaborative Piano from NYU Steinhardt. He is the recipient of the Steinway Society of Atlanta Scholarship and the John Philip Sousa Award. His arrangements have received national acclaim and such honors as ICCA’s Outstanding Arrangement award and CASA’s Best Collaborative Recording award.
